Nostalgia

Thu Oct 8, 2009, 1:34 AM
Well, found a movie lexicon from 1995 in the school library today, with short summaries and ratings of most any movie worth mentioning and some more from about as far back as the 50's or 60's up to 1995. Kept flipping through it and checked up all movies I like and know of from that period, and suddenly got an attack of Nostalgia- many of the movies I like and remember the most, whether it's because they're great, bizarre or cheesy, were made before the start of the 21st century- Near Dark, The Matrix, Some like it hot, Forrest Gump, The Green Mile, The Princess Bride, Evil Dead 2, Dogma, Indiana Jones, Dead poets society, The Dollar-trilogy + some other, less known and weirder movies...Not that there hasn't been awesome flicks now too, but reading about my pre-2000 favourites in a book that speaks of them as if they were released yesterday really makes me wish I had been old enough to be there, see them right away and share the craze when they were still running on the cinemas  Sad but true.

Pairing quiz (the 2009 edition)

Mon Aug 24, 2009, 1:31 PM
(Edited on Sptember 23 2009)

Six Ships I Love:

1.) Victor van Dorf and Emily (Corpse Bride)
2.) Trinity and Neo (the Matrix- trilogy)
3.) Curtis and Hope (Twitch City)
4.) Caleb Colton and Mae (Near Dark)
5.) Jack Sparrow and Tia Dalma (the Pirates of the Caribbean- trilogy)
6.) Marion Ravenwood and Indiana Jones (the Indiana Jones movies)

Three Ships I Liked, but Not Anymore:

7.) Gregory House/Alison Cameron (House, M.D)
8.) Aerith Gainsborough and Marluxia (Kingdom Hearts)
9.) John Constantine/ Archangel Gabriel (Constantine)

Three Ships I Don’t Like (nah, I’d be a big fat liar if I said I ABSOLUTELY NOT like these- but some couples have to go in here too, and these are the ones):

10.) Harry Potter/Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
11.) John Constantine/Angela Dodson (Constantine)
12.) Torn/Keira (The Jak and Daxter games)

Two Ships I’m Curious About, but Don’t ACTUALLY Ship:

13.) Gabriel "Sylar" Grey / Elle Bishop (Heroes)
14.) Squall Leonhart / Rinoa Heartilly (Final Fantasy VIII)

1.) Why do you dislike #11 so much?

Well...It's not a bad couple if you think of it as a temporary relation, but in the long run... I can't see them marrying and having kids and all such, as someone in the fandom put it. Angela is pretty good up to the point she meets with John, and both are good characters on their own, but I figure they're too different and seem to wear on ech other's nerves since they've got so different views on the world.

2.) Who is someone you know that ships #13? (Gabriel "Sylar" Grey and Elle Bishop )

I don't know anyone, really- not particularly active in the Heroesfandom at the moment, and I haven't started hardcoreshipping it myself yet, so there's never been the chance to seek anyone out. Feel free to holler if you're a fan, though. =)

3.) What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3? (Curtis and Hope)

Just watched the final episodes and gotta say that even though I didn't think it at first, I really grew to like them as a romantic couple too, especially the episode where Curtis is trying to get over his TV addiction. Will be drawing fanart for them some day, most likely.

4.) Which is your favorite episode for #1? (Victor van Dorf and Emily)

Hard to choose, there's many cute moments between those two. I gotta say that the one that has left in my mind the best, though, is the part where Emily saves Victor from Barkis Bittern by taking a stab for him, and then has this really elegant move when she pulls the sword out of her chest & points it back at Barkis - go you, Emily, you're dead and STILL kicking @$$ =D Also, the line "I love you Victor. But you're not mine." That one makes me sad for Emily every time, the voice actress really did a good job on bringing out the feeling in that part.

5.) How long have you been following couple #6? (Marion Ravenwood and Indiana Jones)

About since last year, I think- I had seen the second movie a few times before, but it wasn't until last year I got to see the first one and to know Marion. And shit- she's undoubtedly the best girl of the movies, she's awesome! In my opinion, she and Indy are perfect for each other: they're both fun, head-over-heels characters with more personality than a barrel full of monkeys, and it doesn't feel like they're slowing each other down or something =) Plus that they're totally saving each other all the time =D

6.) What's the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring? (Aerith Gainsborough and Marluxia)

Well, I've kinda fallen out of the Kingdom Hearts-fandom. Ariel and Demyx is the only thing that keeps me around, and since I still like that couple I'm very much set on finishing the comic, but the Aerluxia-fancomic I was planning a few years ago will probably never come real.

7.) Which ship do you prefer - #2 or #4? (Trinity and Neo vs. Caleb Colton and Mae)

Trinity and Neo, definitely- they've been there the longest and are still going strong. Mae and Caleb are cute, dreamy, sweet, and Near Dark is a great and quite odd vampire movie, but I don't think they'll keep up my interest for quite as long.

8.) You have the power to make one ship non-existent. Choose from #10 or #12. ( Harry Potter /Hermione Granger or )

Neither, really. Don't have that much against Harry and Hermione as couple, I can see where people get it from, but I happen to prefer them as friends. Torn and Keira...well. Maybe, but I'm not that disturbed by them either. I just think it seems a little too "easy" to make Keira and Ashelin swap boyfriends. If someone wrote a story where Torn and Keira got together without first discovering that Jak and Ashelin have been "getting it on", I'd probably read it.

9.) What interests you about #14? (Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly)

...Aside from that they look pretty together? I honestly have no clue, I just think it'd be interesting to know their backstory more in-detail some day. :?

10.) When did you stop liking #7? (Gregory House and Alison Cameron)

It must've gone really slowly, didn't notice it until today when looking through the 2007 edition of this quiz (I kinda like to make up traditions, like taking this quiz once a year ^^;)

11.) Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the show? (John Constantine/ Archangel Gabriel)

Nope, not at all- Tilda Swinton's Gabriel is interesting enough already without me giving the character a fanverse romantic interest in John, and I still love to watch the angel-exorcist interaction since it's so difficult to clearly tell what kind of attitude Gabriel and Movie!John really have toward each other. But I no longer ship them on a romantic level, no.

12.) What's a song that reminds you of #5? (Jack Sparrow and Tia Dalma)

Of some reason, I always connect them to the Capital Beat song "Salty Fish". :fish:

13.) Which of these ships do you love the most?

As always. Neo and Trinity. They're everything I've ever wanted in a favourite pairing, and are still my boss OTP. Plus that the actor and actress behind them used to date each other for a while, so it kinda gives them another handful of plus points in my books.=)

14.) Which do you dislike the most?

I'd have to say John/Angela on this, with apologies to all their fans. The couple doesn't sicken or so, but it just doesn't cater for my tastes.

15.) If you could have any of these two pairings double date, who would it be?

Marion Ravenwood & Indiana Jones meet Jack Sparrow & Tia Dalma. I'd love to be a fly on the wall if that happened =D.

16.) Have #2 (Trinity and Neo) kissed yet? Elaborate if you'd like.

Yes, yes, several times, but the first remains the best, it's one of my Top 5 favourite moviekisses :smooch:.

17.) Did #4 (Caleb Colton and Mae) have a happy ending? If the show hasn't ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely?

*SPOILER*

Yes, they had=)

*END SPOILER*

18.) What would make you start shipping #14? (Squall Leonhart and Rinoa Heartilly)

If I could get around on checking up their backstory and found something interesting, I'd proably draw some fanart for them. Might do it anyway, they're a quite "photogenic" couple =D

19.) If only one could happen, which would you prefer - #2 or #6? (Trinity & Neo or Marion Ravenwood and Indiana Jones)

Both are very much canon indeed, so for once I don't have to choose- YAY! :w00t:

20.) You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them? (Harry Potter and Hermione Granger)

I leave that to their shippers to decide, it's probably of more concern to them than to me =J

The Green Mile

Sat Aug 22, 2009, 3:15 PM
Finally filled a huge gap in my education by watching 'The Green Mile', and...Whoa. I'm blown away. Fantastic movie. Had heard much enough to figure it would be good, but I wasn't expecting it to be THIS good. Need to read the book now, too.

Well, that's all I had to say, really ^^; You may proceed as usual.

Pimp that comic!

Wed Apr 1, 2009, 11:35 PM
Well, I figured I'd pimp ~Moewen's Heroes-comic/parody ''Five minutes recap'', [link] , since in my opinion it is a well-made and quite funny comic. It's not very long either, I think the final amount of pages will be about ten, and the story is fast-paced, so you don't have to worry about it being a multi-chapter comic that you might not have time or energy to read. It isn't overly ''bashy'' either, incase you have had enough of that already, but more like a friendly noogie at some stuff in the storyline of mainly the second season, and puns at the actions and abilities of various characters.

So I and sis went to watch 'The curious case of Benjamin Button' this evening, and...WOW. It was awesome, great, beautiful, thoughtful and overall one of the best movies I've seen in my life so far. I loved it, would've liked to go back and watch it once more straight away if it wasn't so long (not because I'm scared of long movies, but because I don't exactly live nextdoors to the cinema- I had a ride home to catch). I'll need to get it on DVD someday, and perhaps also read the book.
